Hardening
Hardening is the process by which something becomes harder or is made harder. Hardening may refer to: Hardening (metallurgy), a process used to increase the hardness of a metal.
Annealing
Annealing is a process that changes the physical and sometimes also the chemical properties of a material to increase ductility and reduce the hardness to make it more workable.
Tempering
Tempering of heating steel to a high temperature, though below the melting point, then allowing it to cool in still air. Metal is heated under its critical point temperature and then air-cooled.
Quenching
Quenching is performed to obtain certain mechanical properties in metals by rapidly cooling the workpieces in water, oil, polymer or air. It transfers heat very quickly
Stress Reliving
stress relieving involves heating a part to a temperature at which the yield strength is sufficiently low to the point which internal stresses can relieve themselves.
Normalizing
Normalizing involves heating the steel to an elevated temperature, followed by slow cooling to room temperature. The heating and slow cooling changes the microstructure of the steel.
